Welcome to the Thirsty Beaver!
Every other week my lovely mother-in-law babysits Emily for me and my husband. Sometimes we run errands or have an “in-home” date night [which consists of me NOT cooking]. Then there are the nights where we get to go out to dinner. More times than not we’ll go to one of our favorite local places. But this past time, we actually went somewhere that my husband had never been before. I have been there a couple of times with my sister, but never my husband.
You’d be surprised about the little hidden gems in the smallest state in the country.
Right around the corner from Emily’s daycare is a great “pub-staurant” called Thirsty Beaver. Located on Cedar Swamp Road, this is only one of their locations. There is another in Cranston. The whole decor of the restaurant is an homage to beavers and a beaver lodge. Logs and wood everywhere. It’s GREAT! I love it.
Onto the food …
At the Thirsty Beaver they sell lunch, dinner, and brunch on Sundays. The food is pub style food, but with an upgrade. They take the general burgers or macaroni and cheese and give it a major upgrade. The lunch and dinner menu is broken down into nine categories.
Menu Categories
Beaver Snacks (Appetizers)
Feelin’ Saucy (Chicken Wings)
Cedar Swamps Salads
Wooden You Like Our Pizza
Big Cabin Burgers
Smithfield Common Sandwiches
Dam Big Plates (Entrees)
On The Smaller Side (Sides)
Desserts
On our date night, we got something from Beaver Snacks, Smithfield Common Sandwiches, Big Dam Plates, and Desserts. As well as an adult beverage for each of us. My husband got a beer, and I got an Angry Orchard hard cider. No kiddo with us, why not?!
For an appetizer, we tried St. Paddy’s Breakfast. These delicious morsels are deep-fried Shepherd’s Pie bites. They come with a side of gravy for dipping. I was intrigued because I love Shepherd’s Pie. They were so good! I can’t say enough about how delicious they were. I would recommend them and definitely get them again.
For dinner, I got the Mac Daddy and my husband got the Tickers Twist. If you can’t guess what the Mac Daddy is, it’s a three cheese macaroni and cheese with cheese curds on top. You have option of adding chopped bacon, chicken, gastro’s hot dogs, or pulled pork for an additional price. I chose to add the hot dogs. The Tickers Twist is a chicken sandwich with buffalo honey mustard, cheddar jack cheese, lettuce and tomato on a brioche bun.
For dessert we got Churrific! It’s a fried churros with cinnamon brown sugar, chocolate sauce, an vanilla ice cream. The night we were there they had run out of ice cream, so we just had churros and chocolate sauce. It was still really good.
So what’s the final word???
As I said to my husband, I’ll definitely be back. He then asked me “are you going to be a regular here?” I laughed and said “YES!” I highly recommend Thirsty Beaver. The food is delicious and the prices are extremely reasonable. I will definitely be back soon.
After all, I need to try their Sunday Brunch. 🙂
